Yep, she's brilliant. At first, her writing can seem a little kiddyish, but y'know? It's kind of like Disney movies (at least the old ones). Good for kids, but they also have humor only adults will get.

Her best novel (in my humble opinion) is "Howl's Moving Castle". It's much better than the animated film by Hayo Miyazaki (and I LOVE that movie), and very different. It's a love story that's quirky, funny and addictive. I read it to my dad in one weekend.

Yeah, I read to my dad. A long time ago, before I could read, he read to me. I like to joke that now I'm returning the favor. It helps my fluency in reading out loud, which I know will be a useful skill eventually.

Anyway, definitely check out that one. Another good one, much longer, is "Dark Lord of Derkholm". Very funny, though I'll admit there are times where you feel the length. Reading it makes me cringe. Things get from bad to worse, to horribly wrong!

One more thing I'll say is that, as I said, they can seem for children at times. What I REALLY mean by this is that they have minimal violence, no profanity, and no sexual content. I suppose the better phrase would be "child-friendly". So all you sensitive readers out there (coughrayacough), enjoy a fun, interesting, QUICK (for the most part you'll fly through the pages, such is the flow) read. Enjoy!

PS
I return here not only to write this, but also to get ideas for my shopping list. I'm about to get some Amazon cash (graduation present), and I... REALLY want to buy the Trigun collection! However, I figured I could get many more books than DVDs with this money, and books are better (so I keep telling myself) than cheesy cartoons...

Nnnnnyyyyyaaaaagghhh. But I reeeaallyy want that anime. :P

The name was familiar but I hadn't read anything by her. So I looked her up on Wiki. I have to get this, lol. Her other stuff looks pretty cool too but that Tough Guide to Fantasyland sounds both fun (in a tongue-in-cheek kind of way) and informative ;)

Thanks, Fu!

Hey, I'd never heard of this one. Cool.

Thanks, Kally. ;)

Sounds like a fun book - also useful for the fantasy author to have the cliches identified and thus know what to stay away from.
